The story of the Aphrodite of Knidos, known as the most beautiful statue of all time, is as follows:

The goddess is bare-naked in one of the Aphrodite statue Praxiteles sculptured as two pieces, whereas, the other sculpture depicts the goddess as holding her clothes with left hand while shielding her genital area with her right hand. The bare-naked statue, which is amongst the two Aphrodite statues sculptured upon the order of the citizens of Kos, was not wanted by the residents of the island, and the city of Knidos took the statue instead of them. Placed at the highest terrace of Knidos, the statue was not ever given by the Knidians, even when they became impoverished, rejecting the high amounted offer of the King of Bithynia through plebiscite. Aphrodite of Knidos, which survived until today with its tens of copies, still remains as the first nude female statue in the history.
